Blue Portland Maine - Portland, ME
After enjoying many excellent shows at Blue, we are excited to perform here ourselves. Set time is TBD.

John Redman
John Redman had a bar band in West Virginia in the mid-1970’s with every good intention of composing and performing his own songs. But college, career, and family postponed that pursuit until Covid’s emergence gave him the space/time to finally begin writing. Now the band’s primary songwriter, John writes about everything, mostly rooted in his own experiences. His influences include, among many others, John Prine, Joni Mitchell, Nanci Griffith, and Hank Williams. His deep, warm voice has been compared to a gentler Johnny Cash.

Mesa Schubeck
Vocalist and keyboardist Mesa Schubeck not only sings like a nightingale but enchants audiences with exquisite instrumental solos. A member of the applied music faculty at Bowdoin College, she is a classically trained, collaborative pianist, and a pop/jazz vocalist and songwriter. She draws from diverse musical influences, including classical, jazz, contemporary favorites, and traditional fiddle music. Her professional career has brought her to Nashville, Connecticut, and back home to Maine. Mesa also maintains a private piano/voice studio in Portland.

Joe Beninati
Joe Beninati, the superbly talented and well-known Portland, Maine drummer and percussionist, has been playing professionally for over twenty-five years. His broad expertise spans rock, pop, Latin, soul, funk, and jazz. Besides The Biddeford Beat, Joe currently performs and records throughout New England with, among others, Jason Ward (Rustic Overtones), Mike Maurice and Seth Warner. He also manages, engineers, and teaches drums and basic recording engineering skills at 317 Main Street Community Music Center in Yarmouth, Maine.

Patrick Sylvia
Pat Sylvia has been playing and recording professionally in Maine for two decades. He provides the Biddeford Beat lead guitar arrangements ranging from subtle, sensitive colorings to jaw-dropping fireworks. Master of the guitar neck, he exploits the instrument’s full capabilities across multiple musical styles. Pat performs solo gigs regularly around the area and also plays with Jason Ward (Rustic Overtones) along with Joe Beninati. He is co-owner of Common Roots in Biddeford, an organization dedicated to local outreach for the arts and education.
Meet Us

Hear Us - Our Latest Release
John: "Down the Panamericana tells of my adventures driving the Panamerican Highway from the U. S. to southern Chile in 1970. Much to our parents’ horror, I and three friends left college for a full year of amazing experiences that "grew us" into true adults. It is an homage to the hundreds of Latin Americans who were far kinder than we could have ever expected or deserved. And to my three friends, whom I love and am so grateful are still such a big part of me and my life after 50 years."
